Lawyer Assistance Program

The Lawyer Assistance Program (LAP) gives students three essential resources: counseling, risk reduction and mitigation of legal charges. Consultations are held remotely and are free for current graduate and professional students.

What the LAP can help with

Counseling

Meet informally with an attorney to confidentially discuss a wide range of legal problems in a safe place, and learn your options if you believe you have been wronged or are the subject of a legal matter.

Undergraduates: help with off-campus housing, reviewing leases and alcohol infractions.

Risk reduction

Presentations on premises and host liability, your rights if you are stopped or detained, Constitutional protections against unlawful search and seizure, and understanding sexual assault.

Mitigation of legal charges

The attorney can work directly with you. Through plea bargaining, charges are often reduced, and some can be dropped after community service. There may also be a path to expunge prior charges.
