After years of unpermitted fires, Duke sponsored a bonfire in 1986 with no idea it would start a beloved tradition. Students kept celebrating big wins with bench bonfires, and tensions with the administration grew. To ease them, Duke Student Government helped the Occupational & Environmental Safety Office create the A-Team: students, faculty and administrators who keep the basketball tradition safe.
