Tara Singh (she/her)

President

Tara Singh is a senior from Louisville, Kentucky who is currently pursuing dual degrees in anthropology and political science, with a minor in linguistics. Her previous roles in DSG include being the first Director of Residential Experience & Policy for DSG and Session 31’s VP of Campus Life; Tara’s track record includes pioneering on-campus tailgates, free airport transportation for all Duke students, and advocating for tangible change to the Duke experience. Beyond student government, she also served as the two-term President of Keohane Quad and a Duke Presidential Ambassador. 

Tara’s approach to student government is rooted firmly in a belief in the power of public service. She hopes to empower student government to create an iconic undergraduate culture that centers authenticity and creativity. As President, she looks forward to guiding Session 32 to success with projects aimed at accessibility and tangible improvements to the student experience.

Dylan Cawley (he/him)

Executive Vice President

Dylan Cawley is a senior, majoring in Environmental Science & Policy with a minor in Inequality Studies. He is passionate about exploring the intersections of climate change and environmental justice through an economic lens. Before Duke, Dylan spent a gap year fighting wildfires in Northern California for the California Conservation Corps and has since worked for the US Forest Service on an Interagency Hotshot Crew. On campus, Dylan is a member of Duke Student Government, an Ambassador for the Office of Sustainability, and a researcher in the Duke Economic Analytics Lab.

Mariam Gulamhusein (she/her)

Chief of Staff

Mariam Gulamhusein is a senior from Dubai, United Arab Emirates studying Economics and Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (Arabic concentration). Mariam has been a member of DSG since her freshman year serving as a senator of Services and Sustainability and the Vice President of SAS. Through her roles in DSG, Mariam has also served on the Climate Commitment Advisory Council Leadership Team and advised Duke on its policy surrounding carbon offsets. Beyond DSG, Mariam is a Baldwin Scholar and the lead editor of the Research Africa Reviews Journal. Mariam hopes to improve the student experience for communities at Duke that we’ve previously overlooked to ensure that students are aware of all the support and resources Duke has to offer!

Cynthia Ma (she/her)

Chief Financial Officer

Cynthia Ma is a senior from Vienna, VA majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Psychology and Music. Cynthia has been apart of SOFC for three years, serving previously as Vice-Chair of Management and Communications. Cynthia’s goal for this year is to support student organizations and DSG members in gaining a clearer understanding of SOFC’s funding policies. Cynthia wants to help students feel confident while navigating the funding process and help them find the resources they need for a successful year of programming.

Daniel Wang (he/him)

Treasurer

Daniel Wang is a sophomore from Frederick, MD majoring in Economics. This is Daniel’s first year in DSG (welcome!!), and he looks forward to working with both DSG and SOFC to help them make more informed funding decisions!

Yash Sharma (he/him)

Speaker of the Senate

Yash Sharma is a junior from Gurnee, IL, majoring in Public Policy and double minoring in Psychology and Education. Yash has been involved in DSG since his freshman year as a senator of Academic Affairs and the Vice President of the Durham & Community Affairs Committee. Beyond DSG, Yash is a public policy ambassador, tour guide, and researcher for Duke’s project on Democracy and the Politics of Higher Education.

Vice President of Academic Affairs

Olivia McConnell is the incoming VP of Academic Affairs for Session 32.

Angela Chen (she/her)

Vice President of Campus Life

Angela Chen is a junior from Hong Kong, China majoring in Public Policy & Psychology and minoring Digital Intelligence. She has served as a Senator for Campus Life since her freshman fall, with additional involvement as an Undergraduate Student Representative at the Information Technology Advisory Committee and a member of DSG Reforms Task Force and the Senate Internal Affairs Committee. Angela has worked on projects such as QuadEx Initiatives, Duke Dining collaborations, and increasing financial aid for K-Ville tenting. Angela believes that we all belong at Duke, and our campus life—including our traditions, resources, and systems—should reflect and celebrate that. By expanding accessibility and centering transparency and collaboration, she strives to ensure that our unique campus experience serves as many Blue Devils as possible. Ultimately, she aims to strengthen Duke’s defining and irreplaceable culture of care! 🙂

Edison Chen (he/him)

Vice President of Student Engagement and Advocacy

Edison Chen is a junior from Suzhou, China majoring in Public Policy and minoring in Sociology. Edison has previously served as the Senate Legislative Aid and Senator on E&A, and was involved in projects such as the International Mentorship Initiative and Equitable Dining Information project. Along with being VP of E&A, Edison is a Chair of Senate Judiciary Committee. Edison’s main goal is to help his team complete their projects, advocate for previously-ignored student voices, revive the DSG Judiciary and its checks and balances with Senate.

Olivia Schramkowski (she/her)

Vice President of Durham & Community Affairs

Liv Schramkowski is a senior from Atlanta, GA using Program II to create her own academic track. Liv has previously served as Senator for DCA and AVP of DCA, working on projects such as PLUNCH/Fireside Chats, Democracy Day, and other Civic Engagement projects. Liv’s goal for this year is to promote the visibility of DCA on and off campus, as well as to continue to spearhead conversations and initiatives regarding civic engagement, community service, Duke x Durham partnerships, and overall educated students on how to be ethical participants within Durham.
