In collaboration with Duke University Union, DSG’s Services and Sustainability committee hosted the 2025 Blue Devil Market. SAS’s portion of Blue Devil Market focused on raising awareness about food insecurity at Duke and in Durham through thoughtful partnerships with community organizations such as BaggingIt4Kids, Root Causes, and the Sion James Foundation. SAS provided students with free fresh produce, including lettuce, kale, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, apples, and oranges; all produce was locally sourced from The Durham Co-op Market, and the event also featured flowers from Bottom of the Fox Farm.
The event attracted 400+ attendees, including undergraduate and graduate students and staff. Attendees were also able to meet representatives from our Durham community partners and learn how they can contribute to food recovery and food insecurity relief efforts in Durham. We are excited to expand this event and improve it in future years!
